For rosé drinkers this regio is paradise. Moreover, the use of pesticides and other nasty stuff is very low due to an ideal (dry, warm) climate and terroir. There are many place here where one can buy great wines. We will share here our favourites. Some of them you will find in other categories as well. Like Château Lacoste, which not only is a wine domain but also an outdoor contemporary art exhibition, gastronomy paradise, hotel and one of the nicest attractions near Aix-en-Provence.
Château Barbebelle
One of the oldest domains, one of our week-day favourites
Author: Nicolaas, September 28, 2019
Small family-run domain with a ‘Bastide’ from the 17th century, run by 4th generation Madeleine and her husband (but father is Herbeau is still around!). We found this place when we were looking for houses around Aix-en-Provence. in the middle of the domain there are three more houses with a pool which nowadays is rented out to holiday-goers or peace seekers (except in hunting season from September to February).
One of the oldest domains in the Pays d’Aix dating back to the Romans! We also buy our white wine here. Also do not wait too long after summer to buy the excellent rosé (Madeleine) here since it could well be that the supply of the last year is depleted already in September. You will then have to wait until December for the new wine.
Since we drink this wine all the time we therefore make sure our wine fridge is topped up at the end of August!
